Ingredients
  

Apple Filling
  • 2 lb / 1 kg Granny Smith apples peeled and cubed
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Topping
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 125 g unsalted butter melted
  • Pinch of salt
To Serve (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream

Equipment

  • 1.5 litre baking dish
  • Mixing bowl

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 180C / 350F.
  2. Peel the apples, then cut into 1.5 cm cubes.
  3. Toss apples with flour, sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice. Spread evenly in a 1.5 litre baking dish.
  4. Mix all topping ingredients until clumps form, like wet sand. Spread over the apples.
  5. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  6. Cover loosely with foil and let stand 10 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
