From Inspiration to Plate
Recipes are heritage and ridiculously easy to lose. Nutmeg keeps the ones you love in one place, from your grandmother’s cookbook to last night’s TikTok, and helps you actually get them to the table. A little goes a long way.
Who We Are
It started with a book
Years before “save this recipe” meant tapping a screen, my grandmother wrote one. Travancore Kitchen — a collection of Malayalee recipes from our family, the kind that lived in her head until she decided they shouldn’t only live there.
That book is the reason Nutmeg exists. Not because we’re trying to recreate it (some things are perfect as they are), but because it got us thinking about everything that doesn’t make it into a book. The dishes that get passed down as “a bit of this, a handful of that,” and then quietly disappear when nobody writes them down in time.
Recipes are heritage. They’re also, frustratingly, one of the easiest kinds of heritage to lose.
WHAT MAKES NUTMEG DIFFERENT
Everything You Need for Smarter Cooking
Nutmeg is where the recipes you love actually stay put — whether they come from your grandmother’s handwriting, a TikTok you watched at midnight, a website with eleven pop-ups, or a photo of a stained index card. Save them all in one place. Find them when you need them. Cook them without scrolling past someone’s life story to get to the ingredients.
Here’s the thing nobody tells you about home cooking: the hard part usually isn’t the cooking. It’s the deciding. What to make, what to buy, whether you already have cumin or just think you do.
Good food shouldn’t be gatekept. You don’t need a culinary degree, a pantry full of obscure ingredients, or a grandmother who wrote a book (though we’re partial to that last one). You just need your recipes in one place and a little help getting them to the table.

Ready to Simplify Your Cooking Journey?
So we built a place to keep them
Nutmeg is where the recipes you love actually stay put — whether they come from your grandmother’s handwriting, a TikTok you watched at midnight, a website with eleven pop-ups, or a photo of a stained index card. Save them all in one place. Find them when you need them. Cook them without scrolling past someone’s life story to get to the ingredients.
And because we know dinner doesn’t plan itself, we threw in meal planning, an automatic shopping list, and a Cook Mode that won’t let your screen go dark mid-stir.
The unglamorous truth about weeknights
Here’s the thing nobody tells you about home cooking: the hard part usually isn’t the cooking. It’s the deciding. What to make, what to buy, whether you already have cumin or just think you do.
That decision fatigue is what sends busy families to the takeout app for the third time this week not a lack of skill or willpower. Nutmeg is built to take that weight off. Plan once, shop once, cook without the mental gymnastics. Nutritious meals at home shouldn’t require a project manager.
What we actually believe
Good food shouldn’t be gatekept. You don’t need a culinary degree, a pantry full of obscure ingredients, or a grandmother who wrote a book (though we’re partial to that last one). You just need your recipes in one place and a little help getting them to the table.
We come from a family that wrote its recipes down so they’d outlast us. Nutmeg is the same idea, with better search.
